MAKUPRINT – ABOUT

MAKUPRINT is a printing institution based in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. The aim of the institution is to make it possible to experience the technical, methodological and resulting creative diversity of the medium of print in an experimental, educational, and interdisciplinary context. This includes for example, testing materials, examining working processes and experiencing possible printing technologies from different perspectives.

MAKUPRINT institution was founded in 2024 by Dr. Heiko Angermann on the basis of several years of teaching and research experience in different scientific fields of graphic communication, including courses and projects on print media production, cross media applications, workflow automation, artificial-intelligent system development for the creative industry, etc.

The name of the institution – MAKUPRINT – dates back to 2014, when Heiko graduated as printing engineer. At that time, Heiko decided when having finished the doctorate, to open a print shop where experimenting with print media technology should be the focus instead of producing saleable products. In other words, the production of printed waste should be the focus of Heikos print shop. And printed waste is known in German language as Makulatur.
